Frequently asked questions

Questions about Cohortly

These answers describe the current single-merchant analytics scope.

What does Cohortly do?

It imports Shopify product and available order facts, links orders with a pseudonymous customer key, and produces aggregate repeat cohorts, product associations, product paths, and CSV exports.

Why is read_customers needed?

The order query needs the stable customer ID to recognize orders from the same customer. That ID is transformed into a keyed hash before storage. Customer name, email, phone, and address are not requested.

How much order history is available?

The standard order scope currently provides the most recent 60 days. Broader historical analysis is available only if Shopify approves and grants the optional all-orders scope.

Are guest orders included?

An order without a customer identifier cannot be linked into a repeat sequence and is skipped by the order import.

Do the metrics predict future purchases?

No. Reports describe patterns in imported historical data. Associations do not establish causation and do not guarantee future retention or revenue.

Does Cohortly modify the store?

No. It does not create or edit products, customers, orders, themes, carts, checkout, shipping, discounts, or payment settings.

Does it send email or SMS?

No. Cohortly does not send buyer or merchant marketing messages and does not build advertising audiences.

Is it a marketplace or sales channel?

No. Each installation analyzes only the installed merchant's store. It has no seller registration, product publication, buyer marketplace, commissions, or split payouts.

Does it use an external checkout?

No. Cohortly has no buyer checkout. App plans, when offered, are selected on Shopify's hosted App Pricing page and billed through Shopify.

What is in a CSV export?

Exports contain aggregate cohort counts, observed-window eligibility and rates, time-to-repeat measures, revenue totals, currency, and analysis metadata from the latest completed run. They do not contain customer name, email, phone, or postal address.

How long is source data kept?

The merchant selects a source-data retention period from 30 to 365 days. Scheduled cleanup removes older order facts and invalidates derived reports and exports affected by that deletion.

How are privacy requests handled?

Signed Shopify compliance webhooks trigger pseudonymous data-request processing, customer redaction, or complete shop deletion. See the Privacy Policy for details.
